The Point of A Pen is but a Sword
King, Roma

Gil listened to her patiently. He heard her concerns, and thought about how to respond when he saw her start to cry. Immediately, he moved forward and wrapped his arms around her. "Roma..." He stroked her hair with one hand as he held her close. "I can't say I wouldn't have adopted Giri if I'd known... You know what she needed, just as much as I did, but... You're wrong on one thing. While it hadn't been a good time to have children then, things have changed now. Nai and Giri might still need me, but they're growing up."

He paused, taking a breath as he ordered his thoughts. "Nai's become impossible to contain, and I feel like there isn't much more that I can do for her. Especially if she's disappeared for the reason I think she did. I may not be able to help her now, but if Vaerath has called for her, then I just have to have faith she's ready." He frowned where Roma couldn't see. He didn't like the idea, but saying that wouldn't help now. "Every young dragon leaves the nest eventually, and she might be finally ready."

He sighed softly, trying to get rid of his regret over what he'd done. "Giri... I think less control from us would do her good. It was kinda obvious she felt smothered, and letting her spread her wings will help her. Knowing her, it might give her that final push she needs to become a proper, mature adult."

Gil pulled back slightly to look Roma in the eye as best he could. "If you want to start trying for kids, this would be the time." He leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Roma, no matter what, I love you."

Roma looked at him with soft silver eyes that were gleaming with tears. "It doesn't feel right anymore. At one time, I wanted nothing more than to curl up with you and have kids, but with Nai missing and Giri off on an adventure... I don't see how my children would ever get the care they nee- No not need but deserve from their father," she told in him earnest.

"At this point I've been debating if we had kids would it just be better to keep them at the palace so they could have a nursemaid for when I am too busy. You had enough trouble tending to Nai when she was a child because of all your obligations. Now you have two adult children that are oracles to add to the list that you will need to visit and help," a sigh and she shook her head. "I also know you won't like the idea of them being away from you like that... but what's the difference between that and you leaving to check on the child king?"

She shrugged at him. It was hard to talk about this, but it was all her fears and doubts. What if something happened to her or a child they had and he wasn't here? Their relationship wasn't perfect and it had thorns. But this thorn went through her heart because she loved him dearly and yet the one thing she wanted felt impossible.

Gil shook his head. "I never told you why I started returning to court, did I? I stayed out of it for nearly ten thousand years, then returned with no goal of reclaiming the throne or anything people expected. I can't say I returned because I was bored, though that may have been a part of it. I returned because... I was lonely. Ten thousand years avoiding all of my own kind..." He sighed slightly. "I returned so I could have something to do. I made the deal with the kings since I had all the time in the world. Now, I don't. I humored a worthless king for far too long, and let him try and drop the responsibilities in my lap. I admit, the loneliness also led to me having Nai, so I can't entirely be upset about it, but that's changed. I have exactly three obligations right now, maybe more soon. You, Nai, and Giri. And aside from making sure Nai's safe, I think those obligations aren't going to take up my time."

He paused, before speaking softly. "You're more important than anything else. If you think that's a bad idea, I'll understand."

Roma pulled him closed and just pulled him against her. The tears wouldn't stop now. All the pain she was in was crowding her and it felt horrible but part of it was relief. He finally knew what was wrong after all these years.

"I do want kids with you even still... but first before anything lets get though dinner with Ker," she said. "I don't want to trigger a bad reaction from him."

A small sigh. "But after that we can try."
11-28-2018, 01:40 PM
“Good idea. We don’t want him to flip out even more than he already will.” He shook his head, before gently tracing small circles in her back. “It’ll be ok.”
11-28-2018, 08:31 PM
"How can you say that? How can you be so sure after all this that everything will be okay," she asked. Her silver eyes closed as she exhaled causing her body to shudder slightly. Her breathing was slightly ragged from her crying.

She just didn't see how it would be okay. Everything in that moment was wrong. Nothing felt good or okay either. "I am also tired of pretending to be Giri's mother when I do not feel that way for her. She is just an orphan to me nothing more. From now on I will have no hands on with her. You adopted her, you can take care of her but I won't. I will take care of my children and that is it. No more orphans or pitty cases you feel bad for. If she was biologically your child, then yes I would for respect for you but after twenty or so years wanting kids and not being able to have them cause you adopted her. I'd actually feel better to never see her again "

It was the harsh truth. To Roma, Giri had become the source of her pain. The reason Roma couldn't have what she wanted or be happy with life. Why she couldn't hold children of her own and why she even now felt like it may not work. Giri had imprinted upon both of them, but Roma had never really wanted her. "I know you won't like my choice in the matter, but as you said Giri is an adult so my time as her caretaker in the nursery is done. She isn't my charge anymore."

"As for my father... how do you know he won't kill someone again soon? He seemed more than happy to burn those people."
12-01-2018, 03:00 AM
Gil frowned. "He's more focused on you than killing right now. He'll behave himself to avoid risking me sending him away from you." He shook his head, trying to process what Roma had said about Giri. His hands tightened into fists for a moment as he fought the urge to argue with her. He knew it wouldn't end well now. Emotions were still running too hot.

"Roma... go get some sleep, okay? We can talk more in the morning. Head to bed and I'll join you soon."
12-01-2018, 06:06 AM
Roma looked up at him listening to him with tear stained cheeks. Her silver eyes glowing against her dark skin as her black eyelashes blinked. There seemed be fear in her eyes for a moment, but the pain washed it away again as she looked up at her mate.

"Okay... just don't be too long," she replied. She let go of him and walked pasted him deeper into his home and went to his massive bed. There she climbed into his bed and grabbed his pillow. She wrapped her arms around it, biting into the corner of it to keep her sobs low. She finally worn herself out after ten minutes of just crying there alone, and was asleep. As she slept her muscles stayed taunt. She was tormented even in her dreams by the thoughts that made her hysterical.

Gil spent a short time in the forge, working out his anger and frustrations into the steel there as he crafted blades, shields, whatever he could think of. When he was finally too exhausted to keep working, he cleaned himself up and went back to bed. He was relieved to find her asleep, and settled down to rest as well, knowing he'd have to deal with the issue in the morning again.
Roma gave up sleeping not long before the first light of dawn. Her eyes opened and she felt confused, conflicted, and lost still. She didn't even look at her mate as she got out of bed and went into the kitchen. A raven of spirit magic was sitting on the counter with a note. She walked pasted it and grabbed a knife. Carefully she began to slowly cut up different fruits. There really was no pattern to what she was cutting. It was just something to think on. Something to focus on instead of her thoughts. Maybe a pear, or a strawberry, or a banana and at one point a lemon.
