Brianna
"You've never eaten a heart before!?" Brianna's eye widened. "Well, you're missing out! It's one of the best parts of an animal!"
Zaeren was at least willing to try it, and for that she smiled. "Bottoms up." With a flick of her wrist, she tossed the coin sized organ into her open mouth and chowed down. It was dense muscle, packed with the flavor of the animal. The morsel was a bit chewy, but not in an unpleasant way, and it was gone too soon. Sucking the remnants off her fingers, the feline gave a contented purr. "The livers should be nearly done, too."
She turned the livers over with her fingers, used to the heat of flames and her cooking stones. Hers were the hands of a worker, with callouses from knives and several delicate scars lacing through her dark skin. Even still, her hands were delicate, the skin still soft where there were no callouses. They were her tools, and she cared for them as she would her own knives.
Moments later, she placed the cooked livers onto a small plate, and set those aside with the rolls of finished bread. Sweat beaded up on her collar, and ran down her bear chest as she leaned forward to take a spoonful of the soup. Bringing it to her lips and blowing it cool, she tasted it. The flavor was perfect, delicately earthy with fresh hints of thyme rolling through... Brianna's tail swished lazily behind her in pleasure. "It's ready for the final touch," she said with a grin.
Donning some protective mits, the woman removed the pot from the flames and carried it to the table, where she set it on a cloth mat. Turning on her heels and trotting back to her pack, she bent over and swapped the mits on her hands for a bottle of cool cream. Returning to the table, and stirring the clear soup so it was no longer simmering, she uncorked the bottle of cream and slowly poured it in while stirring. When half the bottle had been added, she stopped, satisfied with her work.
"Zae, can you bring over the plate with the livers and the bread? Dinner's ready."
She ladled soup into each of their bowls, and sat down with a contented sigh. Her skin glistened with sweat from the fire, and for just a moment, Brianna took a break to breathe.
