Aolani's character page
Character's Name:
Aolani Cloudbearer
Nicknames:
Ao, Lani
Age:
4,500
Gender:
Female
Species:
Light angel/Eastern dragon hybrid
Abilities:
Aolani is a strong warrior. She wields her poleaxe with grace and beauty, striking from behind her shield and dealing devastating blows. While not exactly quick, she stands her ground and deflects blows back at her foes.
She is gifted in magics, particularly elemental ones. It is this skill she inherited from her dragon father, one in which her brother could use offensively, but Aolani uses defensively. She uses her magic to form elemental shields that can adsorb and reflect magical blows, though the strength of her shields are dependent entirely on how much power she puts behind them. A fire shield can absorb fire and turn it back on the caster, for example. Too much power from an enemy can break her shield if she's unprepared for it, and she has no counter against dark magic, save for the light magic she can throw up in a last resort. Against physical attack, her shields can cause damage, like burns, frostbite, and eleven electrocution.
As a dragon her elemental shields become stronger, and she's able to breathe out the elements in her breath. While being a bigger target in this form, her scales provide her with extra defense.
Her healing magic is useless, as she was never trained in the art.
Appearance:
Aolani is a tall, well built angel. Standing at 6'3", her slender build hides a muscled physique. Her features are very delicate, and her complexion is fair and peachy, making Aolani seem more fragile than she actually is. Her round eyes are a bright, vivid sky blue accented with bits of lilac and violet. While they were once fierce and passionate, time and loss have softened them, and her passion now burns more subdued. Truthfully, Aolani's most stunning feature is her hair. Taking on all colors of the rainbow, she has carefully divided it into two pigtails, one containing red, orange, yellow, and warm greens, while the other contains cool greens, blues, purples, violets, and pinks. Her hair is incredibly long, falling to her ankles when up, and when let free it touches the floor. She adorns her hair with a band of deep indigo ribbons and a crown of flowers, the colors of which she changes up as they begin to wilt.
She wears a beautiful white dress, accented in gold, with a sweetheart neckline that has golden halter straps. The neckline leaves her chest exposed, revealing a very large gem in the shape of a diamond embedded into her chest. This gem is a pearl, and glimmers in all colors of the rainbow. She cannot remove it, as it's as much a part of her as her wings. The back of her dress, which falls to her thighs in ruffled layers, some lacy while others are not, is low, and exposes much of her skin and her six white feathered wings. The top layer of her skirt is embedded with colorful pearls. In spite of the length of Aolani's dress, little of her legs are seen, as she wears thigh high white boots with similar golden accents as her dress. The toes and soles of these boots are a golden metal, giving her kicks quite a punch.
Her dragon form is similarly as impressive. She's an eastern variety, with white scales so small and fine they appear to be skin. Her rainbow colored mane runs the entire length of her long serpentine body, and she has similarly colored scales running along her back and limbs. Similar to the pearl on her chest, Aolani's body is colored in other, smaller pearls that are far less grand. Her six wings run down the length of her body: two at her shoulders, two in the middle, and two at her hips.
Personality:
Aolani was once a bright, vibrant warrior with a thirst for battle and a love of the fight. While the death of her brother has greatly tamed her, some aspects of her former self still remain visible in her. While less likely to revel in a fight, a certain part of her still enjoys the adrenaline of a good sparring match. Her bright light is more subdued and gentle now, less of a lightning bolt and more a roaring crackle of fire. War has made Aolani jaded and hard, and she doesn't take kindly to those who eagerly speak of slaughtering their enemies. After losing so much, she has immense sympathy and compassion for those also devastated by war, and wishes to help ease their emotional pain.
She's a friendly individual, always quick to smile and make idle conversation with those around her. Her cheer is contagious, and she always wears a smile for the sake of others. That's not to say Aolani hides her sadness. Instead she carries it with grace, somberly writing her feelings down and working towards easing the burden on her heart. She's one to talk things out with others, seeking to reach a compromise. Her temper is all but nonexistent now, and her anger is a rare sight.
Aolani meditates daily in the temples, praying to the gods in silence. This has given her a lot of time to contemplate and reflect on many things, and has given her a very peaceful and tranquil demeanor. She seeks peace in all things, and works diligently in her position as a priestess to attempt to bridge the gap between the gods.
History:
All Aolani has known is life is war. From the time she was born her mother was off leading armies as a high ranking general, leaving Aolani at home with her father and brothers. She grew up learning war tactics, learning of their history and that of the demons. While not always fun, it was a pleasant childhood. Her parents provided for her and her older brother, and the two got on famously. Wherever Pherae went, Aolani followed. The two were inseparable.
Aolani cannot remember the death of her mother very well. While not a child at the time, the news came swift and suddenly. She had been slain on the battlefield, and the family mourned. Soon after Pherae was old enough to join the army, and so he did, working his way up in ranks. This was a quick process, given his mother's teachings and her esteemed lineage made it a short trip to the top. Aolani waited with her father for Pherae to come home, and each time he did she begged him not to go. But as a general, he must, and he did. Soon Aolani was training to be a soldier as well, specializing in the shield and poleaxe.
She heard the news of her brother's passing while in training, and it broke her. Tumbling into a deep despair, she left the army and locked herself in her room. It was here that she began to contemplate the war and all it had cost her. Not only her, but both sides had suffered. Why? Why would the gods allow such needless suffering of their people? So she left her room and began to study, searching for answers. She found herself turning to the temple of Haliea, where she became a priestess. Soon after she became a priestess at the temple of Vaerath as well, traveling between the two in secret, hoping to mend the rift between the gods and ending the war.
But what good can one angel do to turn the tides of war?
